New News
- Our field trip to the Film Festival on Wednesday was a lot of fun! Ask your 5th grader about what they saw? Liked? Inspired them? Made them wonder?
- Thank you for attending conferences (or planning to for Godfrey's class) It was such a pleasure to meet with families and allow the 5th graders to share about their learning this year and goals for 4th quarter. We appreciate you making the time to do this.
Oldie, but Goodies
- Monday, April 15th will be a no school day for teacher pd. Godfrey Conference Sign-Up Link
Math
- April Number Corner will be focused on some old favorites topics of volume and thinking of money and time when working with fractions and decimals as we review our skills with all four operations.
- This week we did some work with area and perimeter in addition to the Forward testing on Tuesday and Thursday during our math time.
- Next week we will review volume one more time, review all of Unit 6 and take the end of unit assessment.
Literacy this week
- We are in Module 3-Athlete Leaders of Social Change.
- The text is Promises to Keep-How Jackie Robinson Changed America by Sharon Robinson.
- This week we started Module 3 Unit 3 by learning about another athlete Jim Abbott. We will start be doing some comparing and contrasting between athletes who worked for social change and putting our learning into writing.
Science
- We are now in our 4th science unit of the year: Earth Systems
- The question we will be investigating and answering is:
What can determine how much water is available for human use?
- Our first chapter's guiding question is: Why is East Ferris running out of water while West Ferris is not?
- Our second chapter's guiding question is: Why does more rain form over West Ferris than East Ferris?
SELS/Health lessons
- Undefeated text discussion and movie trailer discussions for film festival
- The video for April is now available via your child's Google Classroom.
- Our focus this month will be on BEING AN ALLY and our goal is 1,200 paws to earn an EXTRA RECESS in May!
