  • Fall Break will be November 22-24
Math
  • November Number Corner will focus on classifying triangles, placing triangles on a coordinate grid and observing the triangles as they transform from day to day on the grid.  In addition, we will make conversions using the metric system and make connections between decimals and fractions.
  • This week we took some time to explore how to find and how to use Greatest Common Factors and Least Common Denominators when working with fractions. Then, we started Unit 3 on place values and decimals.
  • Next week, we will take a closer look at finding, recognizing and reading place values as we move towards adding and subtracting decimals.  We will also find some strategies for multiplying and dividing decimals by powers of ten.
Literacy this week
  • Our first EL Module is about Human Rights and we are using the book Esperanza Rising as a mentor text.
  • This week we completed in Unit 2 in Module 1 by finishing our writing, peer editing and final drafts of our literary essays. Then, we jumped into Unit 3 of Module 1 with an introduction of our final project/presentation of the module.  Students will be creating  and presenting a monologue based on a scenario from our Esperanza Rising text.

Science
  • This week we began our second science unit of the year.
  • Our second unit is called Ecosystems Restoration (This unit will also support our 2 Module in EL when we begin in early December!) The question we will be answering is:
How do organisms in an ecosystem get the matter and energy they need to grow and thrive?
  • Our first chapter's guiding question is:  Why aren't the jaguars and sloths growing and thriving?
SELS/Health lessons
  • Understanding and managing anxiety
  • Figuring out friendships

  • Watch the Randall Way video for November.
  • (This month is featuring students in Mrs. Faber's class!!!)
  •  Our focus this month RESOLVING CONFLICT and we are working towards a goal of 1,000 Raccoon Paws to earn a December Movie!!
