Math
  • April Number Corner will be focused on some old favorites topics of volume and thinking of money and time when working with fractions and decimals as we review our skills with all four operations.
  • This week we started Unit 7 which is our last unit of the Bridges curriculum for this year.  Unit 7 will be centered around division of whole numbers, fractions and  decimals.  This week we revisited what we already knew about division and started there.  We did some story problems involving partial products, partial quotients and equivalent ratios.  Next week we will continue this work and try different strategies for division with story problems and work places.
  • We will finish off the year by revisiting some of our earlier work in the year.
Literacy this week
  • We are in Module 3-Athlete Leaders of Social Change.
  • The text is Promises to Keep-How Jackie Robinson Changed America by Sharon Robinson.
  • For the next two weeks, we will be working on our essays based on comparing and contrasting between athletes who worked for social change. After the essay, we will be putting together a slideshow and poster to show our learning in a more visual format.  Finally, we will present to our peers!
  • We hope to begin our 4th module on Natural Disasters in May and/or do some reading responses based on chapter books they are reading.

Science
  • We are now in our 4th science unit of the year: Earth Systems
  •  The question we will be investigating and answering is:
What can determine how much water is available for human use?
  • Our first chapter's guiding question is:  Why is East Ferris running out of water while West Ferris is not?
  • Our second chapter's guiding question is:  Why does more rain form over West Ferris than East Ferris?
  • Our third chapter's guiding question is:  Why is more water vapor getting cold over West Ferris than East Ferris?
SELS/Health lessons
  • The Invisibility of Latino Immigrants
  • Human Growth and Development will be starting soon!  Look for a parent letter that will be coming home at least 2 weeks before lessons begin in your child's classroom.
  • The video for April is now available via your child's Google Classroom.
