Math
  • April Number Corner will be focused on some old favorites topics of volume and thinking of money and time when working with fractions and decimals as we review our skills with all four operations.
  • This week we finished up some work with coordinate grids, graphing and writing ordered pairs and looking for patterns with data.  Then we looked closely at quadrilaterals and comparing properties.
  • After Spring Break we will revisit our learning on volume.
Literacy this week
  • We are in Module 3-Athlete Leaders of Social Change.
  • The text is Promises to Keep-How Jackie Robinson Changed America by Sharon Robinson.
  • This week we prepped and engaged in small group discussions about the factors that led to Jackie Robinson's success.
  • Then, we analyzed a model opinion essay and planned for one of our own.
  •  After Spring Break we will revise and edit our drafts to close out Unit 2 in this module.  We hope to have some great samples of their writing to share at conferences.

Social Studies
  • We finished our mini-unit on Native American history.  We used the text The Mishomis Book--The Voice of the Ojibway by Edward Benton-Banal to guide our learning for the next few weeks.
  • After Spring Break we will jump into our last science unit of the school year.
Science
  • Next week we will begin our 4th science unit of the year: Earth Systems
  •  The question we will be investigating and answering is:
What can determine how much water is available for human use?
  • Our first chapter's guiding question is:  Why is East Ferris running out of water while West Ferris is not?
SELS/Health lessons
  • Looking at Race and Racial Identity in Children's Books.
  • The video for March is posted via your child's Google Classroom.
  • Our focus this month will be on Integrity and our goal is  1,000 paws to earn a Dance Party in April! Stay tuned for the release of our April video :)
