  • April Number Corner will be focused on some old favorites topics of volume and thinking of money and time when working with fractions and decimals as we review our skills with all four operations.
  • This week we finished up some work with coordinate grids, graphing and writing ordered pairs and looking for patterns with data.  Then we looked closely at quadrilaterals and comparing properties.
  • After Spring Break we will revisit our learning on volume.
Literacy this week
  • We are in Module 3-Athlete Leaders of Social Change.
  • The text is Promises to Keep-How Jackie Robinson Changed America by Sharon Robinson.
  • This week we prepped and engaged in small group discussions about the factors that led to Jackie Robinson's success.
  • Then, we analyzed a model opinion essay and planned for one of our own.
  •  After Spring Break we will revise and edit our drafts to close out Unit 2 in this module.  We hope to have some great samples of their writing to share at conferences.

Science
  • Next week we will begin our 4th science unit of the year: Earth Systems

    • March Number Corner will focus on estimation and multiplication of decimal numbers through the skill of finding area.  We will also be collecting and analyzing data based on the lengths of our math pencils during the month of March.  (You would be amazed at how few pencils make it to the end of the month....) Not only will we discuss the data, but we will also be compiling it into a line plot and making conclusive statements based on what we found. Finally, we will continue to practice and strengthen our division skills along with revisiting adding and subtracting fractions.
    • This week we started Unit 6.  For this week and most of next we will be looking for patterns and then graphing our data on a coordinate grid.  At the end of next week we will start looking closely at quadrilaterals and comparing properties.
