- Tuesday, May 21st and Wednesday, May 22nd--Chromebook/Charger Check In Please help your 5th grader remember to bring their charger in on these days so that it can be checked by the LMC to make sure it is working properly. 5th Graders will be keeping the chromebooks over the summer and taking them to middle school.

- Two end of year permission slips were sent home Monday, April 22nd. Please return these by Monday, May 13th. For our trip on May 30th, we really need as many chaperones as possible. In order to be a chaperone, you must be Level 2 Approved/Certified Please consider joining us that day. You will need to be a level 2 certified volunteer. - Randall Talent Show will be on Tuesday, June 5th at West High School. However.........Only Randall staff and students this year....we hope to try and live stream it.
- Tuesday, April 30th--Book Share Day--has been postponed to a later date (TBD)
Math
- April Number Corner will be focused on some old favorites topics of volume and thinking of money and time when working with fractions and decimals as we review our skills with all four operations.
- May Number Corner will be focused on coordinate grids and conversion work between cups and ounces. In addition, we will have a variety of problem strings and activities that will review our 5th grade skills.
- There will be 2-3 quizzes coming home this week.
- This week we worked with different strategies for division with story problems and work places. Next week we will also work with multiplication and division of powers of 10. For the week of May 13th, we finish up this unit and do some review. We will take the Unit 7 test the week of May 20th along with our final Bridges Interim Assessment and Amath screener. Whew :)
- We will finish off the year by revisiting some of our earlier work in the year.
Literacy this week
- We have completed Module 3-Athlete Leaders of Social Change!!!
- The text was Promises to Keep-How Jackie Robinson Changed America by Sharon Robinson.
- This week we finished up our essays, completed and presented our slideshow and created posters to show our learning.
- Next week and to the end of the year, we will be doing a combination of various literacy activities. Each classroom may be a bit different, but in general we plan to do parts of EL Module 4-Natural Disasters, chapter book reading/responses/activities, some additional read alouds, daily oral language and cursive.
Science
- We are now in our 4th science unit of the year: Earth Systems
- The question we will be investigating and answering is:
What can determine how much water is available for human use?
- Our first chapter's guiding question is: Why is East Ferris running out of water while West Ferris is not?
- Our second chapter's guiding question is: Why does more rain form over West Ferris than East Ferris?
- Our third chapter's guiding question is: Why is more water vapor getting cold over West Ferris than East Ferris?
- Our fourth chapter's guiding question is: Why is more water vapor high up over West Ferris than East Ferris?
SELS/Health lessons
- Being a student in a New Country
- Human Growth and Development will be starting soon! Look for a parent letter that will be coming home at least 2 weeks before lessons begin in your child's classroom.

- Our focus this month will be on Practicing the "Randall Way" and our goal is 1,250 paws to earn a Popsicle Day in June!
